Hearing / Vision Impairment

Hearing

This disability includes students who have a hearing loss that interferes with learning and development of communication skills.  This loss may be permanent or fluctuating.  It may vary from severe to profound (deaf).  The services are provided as itinerant resource or as a class program depending on the individualized needs of the student.  Auditory communication devices are often part of the treatment program for students; included but not limited to: auditory trainers and/or hearing aids.  There is a residential program for students with hearing impairments in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Vision

An impairment in vision that, even with correction, adversely affects a child’s educational performance (includes both partial sight and blindness) is eligible for specialized services from a vision specialist.  The services are provided as either itinerant resource or as a class program depending on the individualized needs of the student.  The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is a residential program provided in Jacksonville, Illinois.
