The Cross Categorical Instructional Program is for students with mild to moderate disabilities in kindergarten to eighth grade. The curriculum is researched-based that provides for individualized academic instruction in reading, mathematics and written language.
The class sizes have low staff-to-student ratios in order to individualize all programming for students. There are no more than 13 students per classroom, with one teacher and classroom assistants. Students are taught at their individual levels and a great deal of repetition is provided to ensure mastery of skills.
Specialized math and reading programs, aligned with the core curriculum, is designed to address students who are behind academically. Students also have access to a number of computer programs which supplement the curriculum (Raz Kids, Scholastic, Solo 6, Unique Learning System, Edmark, etc.). Students must master a specific skill in order to move on to the next level. This is accomplished by providing the appropriate level of engaged learning necessary for students to master the curriculum skills.
The following specialized services are offered for students that require them: Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Language Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, School Nurse, Hearing Itinerant and Vision Itinerant Services.
Community based instruction is utilized in order to reinforce academic, communication and social skills in the local community.
The program offers many after-school activities throughout the year. An after-school program is provided through the local park district and is located at PAEC Center. We also have a large Special Olympics Program which includes basketball, soccer and bowling.
